Pam and I met in 2001 while working for a large restaurant company in Houston, Texas. It soon became very clear that we had a love for each other as well as a love for wine. In 2003, we did the unthinkable; we married in April and in October packed up and moved to Napa. It was time to chase our dream.
Starting as a harvest intern at Girard in 2006, I worked under the guidance of Marco DiGiulo and Zach Long in the cellar and was quickly promoted to Cellar Master, then Assistant Winemaker and ultimately Winemaker. During that time I felt it was time for Pam and me to take the big plunge with our first “baby”. In 2007 we purchased two tons of Napa Valley Syrah, 1/2 ton of Russian River Syrah and 1/2 ton of Russian River Grenache. We had begun. It was working her first harvest that Pam defined our roles by announcing "You're before Bottle, I am after,” and we found our groove. Surviving our first harvest we soon realized that this was definitely our path in life.
When Pam is not at work or taking care of our son Jaxon Pierce, she promotes Hugo Family Cellars both locally in California and twice a year in Texas hosting tastings and winemaker dinners around the Houston area. Texas always has a place in our hearts and man do they love their wine!
My philosophy is simple: wine is to be shared with family and friends; it is a living and breathing expression that constantly evolves and instills memories. With this in mind, my focus gives me a keen sense of place within the region, and I am driven to allow Napa Valley shine through in every bottle.
Glenn and I have been big fans of Natasha's art for many years. We felt that her creations would be the best representation for ours. We feel very fortunate that Natasha agreed to join us on this journey and have appreciated all she has done for us. Click below to be inspired by a true artist.
